Lead Legacy project

Background

Lead Legacy Project

The Lead Legacy project is funded by the Local Heritage Initiative. The Project intends to produce:

1. one small book explaining the lead heritage of Hucklow Parish

2. a heritage trail taking in the main features of the lead heritage

3. three interpretation boards

We plan to explore the lead heritage from several angles, capitalising on the excavation of High Rake Mine and the biodiversity of Tideslow Rake (SSSI) and Silence Lane, and to a lesser extent Hucklow Wood.

The project will look at:

The history of leadmining and the lives of the lead miners

The archaeology of the mines and conservation of what remains

The biodiversity especially evident in this area - i.e. the metallophytic plants - not just in Tideslow SSSI but around High Rake, in Hucklow Wood and along Silence Lane (Blackberry Lane)
