Villagers erecting a new shaft to the Butter Cross in Great Hucklow.  When a section of the Cross was found in the village, Great Hucklow achieved funding for restoring the Cross and erecting it in the village centre.

Village Projects

Hucklow residents are very active in a number of current projects:

The Village Plan aims to improve social and environmental facilities for residents, in the areas of communications, social groups and services, road safety, environment and heritage, and young people.

The Lead Legacy project is looking into lead mining in the area, and will produce a booklet and a Lead Legacy Information Trail.

The Parish is implementing a plan to ensure the long term future of the Silence Heritage Site, in partnership with Foolow Parish Council and the Peak District National Park Authority.  This site is in the Silence Mine area below Hucklow Edge and is important both for its archaeology and for its biodiversity.

The Unitarian Old Chapel has a project to improve disabled access and other facilities.

Residents are also contributing to the Peak District National Park Authority's Vision Project, which aims to enhance biodiversity in this area.

Information about projects that have finished will in future appear in the on-line Archive.
