Wakes Week 2006

See the Recent Events page for more photos of Wakes Week.

Wakes Week began with 'puddling the clay' and completing the designs for the wells.  Bunting went up, flowers were gathered and dressing the Wells began on Sunday 6 August.  A display of crafts from Water Aid countries was organised in the Old Chapel.

On Saturday 5 August, fun was had at the children's games and picnic.

On Wednesday evening, the Wells were erected.

Thursday evening saw the Blessing of the Wells to the accompaniment of Cressbrook Band.  The impressive Best Dressed House, 'Figure at your Gate' and children's well dressing plates were judged.  Thursday evening ended hilariously with the Great Potato Race.

On Friday evening, buggies were judged prior to the Great Great Hucklow Buggy Race.  Entries were superb and the race competitive.  Friday concluded with a Quiz at the Queen Anne.

Saturday 12 August was Gala Day, with "all the fun of the fair" enjoyed to the exhilarating rhythm of the Jazz Band.  The Great Hucklow Doris Dancers ended the day uproariously.

A service was held on Sunday morning in the Old Chapel, where, from Thursday to Sunday, cakes and teas had been served.  On Sunday afternoon, the Great Hucklow v. Great Longstone Cricket Match rivalled any Test Match.  The week ended with a supper party for the exhausted, held in the Nightingale Centre.
