Christmas LightsGreat Hucklow's dazzling display of Christmas Lights is switched on usually on the second Saturday in December at 7pm and can be enjoyed until Twelfth Night. Little Hucklow is also ablaze with lights and invites you to join the carol singing around their Christmas tree in the centre of the village on the Friday evening before Christmas. The Switch-on of the Christmas lights, led by a minister of the Unitarian Old Chapel, is heralded by a local band . The band continues to accompany the carol singing and the school children. Warming mulled wine, juice and mince pies are served as the children delight in the arrival of Father Christmas. The reindeer and sleigh often have a night off on this weekend but Santa always manages to find interesting alternative transport! Organised by Community Spirit and funded by their activities throughout the year, preparations for the Christmas lights start at least a month earlier with the arrival of up to 45 Christmas trees. Volunteers are always needed to erect the trees and decorate them with strings of brightly coloured bulbs. Houses throughout the village are also decorated. It's one of the most colourful displays in the area and should not be missed. The dates and times can be confirmed in the village diary. Please contact Community Spirit if you could help with erecting and decorating the trees next November/December. |
