On 16 November 2007, Geoff Hand, whose family live in Great Hucklow, entertained villagers and friends with a talk in the Nightingale Centre. In 2004-5, he sailed around the world in the yacht 'Vaio' as part of the Global Challenge Round the World Yacht Race.
