Well Dressing & Wakes Week

The 2017 Great Hucklow Wakes Week takes place from 8th to 14th August. The wells will be blessed by Michael Dadson, the village Unitarian Minister, in the evening on Thursday 10th August. A local band will be playing alongside Michael, before and after the blessing.

The first Great Hucklow Well Dressing took place in 1987. The picture showed "The Old Chapel" and was sited, as now, on the village green. Great Hucklow introduced a Children's Well in 2004, now located in Dirty Lane near the Old Chapel. .

A date was set around 20th August for Wakes Week celebrations, including activities such as the Well Dressing, Pram Race and It's a Knockout. Community Spirit still runs Wakes Week today.

This year, the events are as follows:

Thursday 10th August
6.45 pm - Blessing of the Wells at the Old Chapel
7.30 pm - Slow Bike Race along the main street
Plus: Best Dressed House and Figure at the Gate

Friday 11th August
6.30 pm Onwards - Potato Race at the Village Green
7.30 pm - Chicken Run at the Village Green

Saturday 12th August
Gala Day from 1.00 pm throughout the village. - Variety of stalls, local crafts, childrens' games, BBQ, Ice Creams, Afternoon Teas, Classic Car Exhibition, Bee Keeping Exhibition, Doris Dancing, Bladderman (?!) Grand Raffle and Tombola. LIVE MUSIC ALL DAY!
