Well Dressing & Wakes Week

The 2018 Great Hucklow Wakes Week takes place from 9th to 12th August.

The theme for this year’s Gala is the Centenary of Votes for Women with an acknowledgement to the Centenary of the RAF so that will give everybody plenty of scope for costumes and garden/house decorations. We are expecting to see many suffragettes and flying aces in the gardens or at the gates!

Thursday 9th at 7 pm Blessing of the Well ceremony with David Shaw and Cressbrook Band. This will be followed by the announcement of the results of the Best Dressed House and the Best Figure at the Gate. There will also be a late addition in the form of a Flavoured Gin competition so all are welcome to either have a go at producing their own concoction or trying out those that have been entered.

Friday 10th at 6pm sees the second running of the Slow Bike Race with separate races for children and adults. This will be followed by a Family Treasure Hunt through the district starting at 7-7.30 pm depending on when the Slow Bike races finish.

Saturday 11th at 2pm. The Gala will be opened by Stella Burney ,manager of the Nightingale Centre, followed by music from the Roy Walker Jazz Band and the famous Doris Dancers.
