
Proposed Management Plan
Through ownership and pro-active management the Village Trust proposes to:
1. Secure the future of the wildlife and historic interest of the site.
Through:
- Archaeological investigation of the engine house and wheel pit
- Appropriate repair/maintenance of the archaeological features
- Botanical monitoring; invertebrate, mammal and bird surveys
- Pond restoration, (extension) and management
- Scrub, bracken and bramble control aimed at:
- Maintenance of the grassland clearings in the eastern part of the site
- Enhancing and extending the grassland clearing in the west
- Creation of a grassland corridor between the clearings
- Conservation of the engine house wall
- Exposing further areas of potential archaeological and ecological significance
- Construction of bird and bat boxes
2. Maximise access opportunities on foot for all - local people, interest groups, local schools and visitors.
Through:
- Dedication of the site as open access land under the CROW Act
- Footpath restoration works
- Strategic fencing of the northern boundary to restrict motor bike access
- Scrub and bramble control to allow access to the western clearing.
3. Make full use of the sites special qualities to encourage all sectors of the community to become increasingly aware of, and involved in the local environment.
By:
- Encouraging and facilitating use of the site by local school(s)
- Promoting the site through fliers, guided walks and inclusion in appropriate websites
- Producing interpretational material as appropriate
- Involving people in site management where possible eg scrub control, footpath works, development of interpretation, survey and monitoring.
